Life Coaching for Teen Girls — Bringing Back the Daughter You Recognize

Mentor Counseling for teenage girls overwhelmed by the years that shape them.

Virtual sessions worldwide. Based in Marin County, California.

You noticed it before anyone else did — the quieter dinners, the closed door, the friend group that shifted. Something about this season needs more than reassurance.

Mentor Counseling® is not therapy.

Mentor Counseling® is not therapy, and it isn’t a substitute for it. It’s the work of helping a teen girl become more skilled at being who she is — putting words on what she actually thinks, hearing how her own decisions sound out loud, and building the daily habits that compound into character, competence, and direction. In sessions, she gets the rare thing she needs most: a trusted adult outside her family who is paying attention to her, not to the version of her she performs. Mentor Counseling is for teen girls who are overwhelmed, not mentally ill. For many families it becomes the work that comes after therapy, or alongside it — rarely a replacement. If your daughter is in crisis, the first step is always a referral to clinical care.

What Life Coaching for Teen Girls Is

Life coaching for teen girls is one-on-one developmental work with adolescent girls aged 13 to 17 — focused on identity, ownership, and the small daily decisions that build a teenager into the young woman she is becoming. The work is not clinical. It is not crisis intervention.

Adolescent girls today carry developmental pressures specific to this era — identity under comparison, perfectionism with audience, peer dynamics at scale. The work names them.

Sessions are virtual, 50–60 minutes, available worldwide from Jeff’s Marin County, California base. Most premium-tier engagements run six to eighteen months.

How Mentor Counseling Works

Mentor Counseling combines three disciplines in a one-on-one format with your daughter: life coaching for clarity and goal-setting, leadership development for skill-building under pressure, and deep listening — the non-clinical foundation that makes the first two land. Jeffrey Leiken, MA, developed the methodology beginning in 1998.

For girls, the work focuses on the inner narrative — what she tells herself when she scrolls, when she fails, when a friend turns. The leadership-development layer is where she practices speaking back to that narrative with her own voice.

What We Address

The work focuses on what’s actually happening in her life right now:

  1. Identity formation under constant comparison — who she is when the audience is always watching.
  2. Perfectionism that hides as ambition — the load she carries without a place to put it down.
  3. Peer dynamics at scale — the group chat, the story, the friend who shifted overnight.
  4. The quiet withdrawal — closed door, muted conversations, the sense that something changed.
  5. The ‘what comes next’ conversation — agency about her own direction, separate from what’s expected.

Why Evolution Mentoring and Life Coaching

The teenage years are when a girl decides who she is. The decisions she makes during them — about her voice, her work, her people — shape the trajectory of her twenties. Patterns set under pressure follow her forward.

Jeffrey Leiken has worked with teen girls and their families since 1998 — more than 25 years of practice across 17 countries. He holds an MA in Educational Counseling, is adjunct faculty at the University of San Francisco, guest-lectures at Stanford, delivered a TEDx talk on adolescent leadership, and authored a book on the same subject. He created Mentor Counseling — the methodology behind Evolution Mentoring’s broader teen mentoring practice

What Parents Commonly Report

The work shows up in observable shifts. A few patterns recur:

  1. The inner critic loses some volume. The harsh narrative — “I’m not enough,” “too much” — stops being the loudest voice in her head.
  2. Friend dynamics stop dictating the calendar. The week stops organizing around who’ll be where, and her own plans start showing up.
  3. “What do you think I should…” slows down. She holds her own opinion in the room, even when it’s uncomfortable.
  4. Conflict at home shifts shape. The door-slamming becomes a longer pause, a different conversation, a return to the kitchen later.
  5. She brings the work back home unprompted — referencing something from session in passing, just how she’s thinking about it now.

The Process

      1. Start with a 30-minute consultation — a working call that surfaces what’s going on at home and whether this is the right work.
      2. If it fits, weekly virtual sessions of 50–60 minutes begin within a week.
      3. Direct reach-out between sessions — when something hard happens, you don’t wait.
      4. Cadence recalibrates as the work matures.

Standard agreements:

  • No obligation to continue after the first session if the fit isn’t right.
  • Confidentiality holds within the bounds of mandatory reporting law.
  • No diagnoses, no clinical labels, no treatment of mental illness.

What Parents say

“I often think of Jeff as my secret weapon in helping to raise my daughter successfully as a single parent. Most times it’s reinforcement of a discussion I’ve already had with her that cements it in for her, other times it’s something that he’ll drop in that will connect for her and make sense in a way what I’ve offered didn’t, and there are those times where she just can’t speak to me as freely as she will with Jeff and this moments have made all the difference for her, I know..”

— Joseph, Parent of a teen girl

“Our daughter has been transformed from a teenager who was struggling to barely get by, to a thriving and balanced young adult with ambitious goals and the discipline to achieve them. Jeff was able to offer her what no therapist or traditional specialist was able to do for her at a time when we all were desperate. We can’t recommend his services highly enough!

— Lee Ann, Parent, Mill Valley, CA
